Zeeland
The combination of ground photographs by Thijs Tuurenhout and aerial photographs by Karel Tomei makes this book about the Netherlands' most varied province refreshing, entertaining and spontaneous. Rinus Antonisse, a journalist at the regional newspaper the Provinciale Zeeuwse Courant, wrote the introduction and captions. According to Rinus, Zeeland is unique in the Netherlands because the tranquillity and space it offers invites us to slow down and forget the rat race. But the question is how long Zeeland will stay that way. Its leaders welcome newcomers with open arms. On the other hand, the province is forced to give nature (i.e. the water) full rein. There comes a point at which you can no longer keep on reinforcing the dykes. The conclusion is that Zeeland is still a province with a lot of space, countryside, water, peace and quiet. But one that is surrounded by steadily encroaching residential centres and areas of business activity.
