Gezicht op Leiden
They have a saying in Leiden: Niets lijkt op Leiden (There's nowhere like Leiden). And they're right. What other city could produce writers like Hildebrand, Klikspaan, Paaltjens, Bordewijk, 't Hart en Wolters? Leiden: survivor of sieges, city of the Golden Age, Rembrandt, Thorbecke, and the Pilgrim Fathers. A city that also boasts one of the oldest universities in the world. Photographer Thijs Tuurenhout plays with form, light and colour as no other, and that makes this book of photographs surprisingly different as he presents the city in his own unique way. The text, which relays the history of Leiden, is by Madelon van Luijk.
